Queens Park Rangers had to fend of interest in some of their key players over January, and it was thought that there wouldn't any further worry until the summer at least.

The side's current league position of 13th place in the Championship table suggests that it has been a mediocre season at best for Rangers, but that has not been the full story.

Early highs were followed by a prolonged low, which has only recently started to peter out. Prior to the recent suspension of the league by the EFL last Friday, the R's were on a six-game unbeaten run - their best sequence of results all season.

However, despite results not being as consistent as Mark Warburton would've liked this term, one thing that has been a constant is the form of a particular QPR player. Step forward Ebere Eze.

If the club thought they could move on swiftly from January to the summer with no interest coming his way, they were mistaken.

The 21-year-old has been QPR's standout performer this term, notching up 12 goals and 8 assists in 37 Championship appearances.

His showings alerted clubs such as Southampton and Tottenham in January, but the attacking midfielder stayed in west London.

However, according to reports in The Sun, Spurs have once again been linked with a move for the playmaker, and are willing to part with £20 million to get the deal over the line.

Although any young footballer dreams of a move to the promised land, and the opportunity could now be there for Eze in a couple of months' time, he should continue to learn his trade at QPR for another season or two. Here's why.

This is the third season that Eze has featured for the R's first-team, but it has been in this one where he has shown what he is truly capable of. Just looking at his numbers this term can tell you that.

QUIZ: Can you name these 15 ex-QPR centre-backs?

A big reason behind that has been Mark Warburton, and the guidance the R's manager has given to the 21-year-old. He has given him the confidence to make the Number 10 role his own, and it has allowed Eze to express himself more on the pitch.

In addition to that, the possession-based style of play that Warburton has played to Eze's strengths. It has also helped him that players such as Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ilias Chair have stepped up, and also provided creativity to the team.

If Eze was to make the switch to Spurs, where would he fit in? Although he can play centrally or on either flank, the number 10 role best suits him. Displacing Dele Alli would prove to be a huge challenge.

The chances are he would be a bit-part player at Spurs until a position in the side opens up.

Eze has got the potential and raw talent, but he is still young. Time is on his side, and QPR remains a great environment to continue to improve.
