2017/18 PL campaign: 3 right backs Newcastle must target to solve problem position

Newcastle United fans are celebrating promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

A comprehensive 4-1 victory over Preston North End saw them seal promotion back to the top flight.

Now that their status as a Premier League club is confirmed for the upcoming season, Newcastle United can start thinking of summer transfer targets.

Rafa Benitez reportedly wants to completely reshuffle his squad ahead of their survival bid next season.

The Spaniard has identified six problem positions which he wants to strengthen, as reported by The Chronicle.

One of the positions is right back.

This is despite DeAndre Yedlin having a relatively good season - the American international will be hoping to retain his spot as first choice right back next season.

His back-up options were Jesus Gamez and Vurnon Anita.

Anita looks set to leave on a free at the end of the season and Gamez has been disappointing this year.

Carl Jenkinson

Arsenal outcast Carl Jenkinson is set to move this summer with Brighton and Newcastle interested.

The 25-year-old has proven his Premier League class during two loan spells with West Ham but his progress has stalled due to injuries in the last year.

Newcastle would be an ideal place for Jenkinson to reignite his career.

Pablo Zabaleta

Newcastle could do a lot worse than targeting Pablo Zabaleta on a free this summer.

The Manchester City veteran right back is out of contract this summer and West Ham want to sign him.

Still a decent player, the 32-year-old Argentine defender is a perfect short term addition for Newcastle and he'd be a great mentor to improve DeAndre Yedlin.
