Dean Smith's men wrote themselves into Aston Villa history at the weekend, with the club all but confirming their place in the Sky Bet Championship play-off places for yet another year.

After an incredible run of form of late, the Villans are the team to be feared as we enter the latter stages of the 2018/19 campaign, with the West Midlands side's place in the play-offs looking ever more likely.

The Villans picked up their 10th league win in a row against Millwall on Easter Monday, smashing a club-record and rounding off what has been a fantastic month for Dean Smith's side thus far.

They had to work hard to pick up all three points, but after Jonathan Kodjia's first-half strike, there looked to be only one winner despite heaps of pressure from the visiting Lions.

Kodjia is a player that has endured a difficult season at Villa Park - the Ivorian had been their main man over the last couple of years, following his big-money move from Bristol City in 2017.

But the 29-year old has encountered a tricky campaign this time around, with Chelsea loanee stealing the limelight having scored 25 goals in all competitions this season.

The forward was even linked with a move back to former club Angers in January, but after seeing his move blocked by the club, everyone concerned with Villa will now be relieved that they  made that key decision three months ago.

Judging off his performance at the weekend, Kodjia is more than eager to fight for his place in the team, and is also more than willing to play his part in Villa's push for the Premier League.

And, after putting in such an impressive display  in Tammy Abraham's absence, Kodjia will now know that he has presented himself with a perfect opportunity to force his way back into Smith's first-team plans.

It will be a big ask to keep a player like Abraham out of the side, but if he keeps working hard and firing on all cylinders, then who knows how the end of this season will pan out?
