Macauley Bonne could be playing in the Championship next season, with The Sun journalist Phil Cadden reporting that Charlton are set to sign him.

The 23-year-old has made a name for himself at Leyton Orient in the National League, and has scored 45 goals in two years at the club, which suggests he is ready for EFL football.

Naturally, this story has caused a mixed reaction, with Orient fans in uproar at the prospect of losing their top scorer, whilst Charlton fans also doubt the credibility of this deal due to a takeover taking place.

Bonne has previously been linked with moves to clubs higher up the footballing pyramid, such as Leicester and Sunderland, and it has been reported by the Hackney Gazette that he could be available for as little as £200,oo0 due to a buyout clause in his contract.

The Championship would be a big step up for Bonne, and although he has shown he can score goals his signing would still be a gamble.

Here is some of the reaction from fans on Twitter.
