Derby County have released a statement claiming they broke no rules and adhered to the EFL’s profit and sustainability (P&S) guidelines in relation to the sale of their stadium, which has drawn a frustrated reaction from Leeds United fans.

According to the Times, the EFL are looking into the sale of Pride Park, which is understood to have earned Derby £80 million, following claims from other clubs that they’re exploiting a loophole in the EFL’s P&S rules.

It is believed that sale saw the club report a £14.6 million profit for the 2017/18 financial year, which meant they did not fall short of the EFL’s P&S rules.

Sheffield Wednesday and Reading are also thought to have sold their grounds to their owners for a similar purpose.

Middlesbrough are reportedly set to sue the EFL as they allege they have failed to uphold their financial rules in relation to Derby’s sale of Pride Park.

Derby released a statement today suggesting that the EFL had indicated that “the arrangement was in accordance with its rules and regulations” and that they cannot now suggest they have breached the rules.

The Rams were involved in the Spygate saga with Leeds back in January, which saw the Whites fined £200,000 and given a severe reprimand after sending someone to spy on Derby’s training.

Clearly, Leeds fans have not forgotten about that and many were quick to suggest on Twitter that the Rams should be dealt with in a similar fashion.
