Coventry City youngster Jordan Ponticelli made his return to football in a reserves match for Macclesfield Town after nearly three months on the sidelines.

Ponticelli moved to the Silkmen on a season-long loan deal on deadline day in the summer but suffered a nasty injury just over 30 minutes into his debut against Crewe Alexandra.

He scored on his return to football today, however, tweeting:

The 20-year-old made an impressive 19 appearances for the Sky Blues in League Two last season as they won promotion via the play-offs, scoring three goals in the process.

Macclesfield will be pleased to see him back as they continue to struggle towards the bottom of the fourth tier.

They have lost six of their last seven matches, scoring just once in that time. A 2-1 win against Carlisle United is the only victory they have had to cheer about all season.

It means they have lost 13 of their 18 league games this season and are rock-bottom of the league.

The Verdict

This is undoubtedly a huge boost and for both teams.

Ponticelli is obviously more important to Macclesfield now and their immediate hopes of survival, but as property of the Sky Blues they obviously have a huge interest.

He showed last season that he is capable of scoring in League Two and you have to fancy him to do it again once he regains full fitness.
