Newport County grabbed the final play-off spot on a tense final day of the season, sneaking a draw at Morecambe to nudge Colchester into eighth place.

The Exiles were often playing catch up, having enjoyed a couple of cup runs which gave them games in hand going into the final few weeks of the season.

Instead of suffering fatigue and weariness, they kicked on and ended up securing the final spot, giving them the chance to host Mansfield Town this evening.

They're right on form, second only to Stevenage over the last six matches and with quality running throughout their squad, they're going to be a real danger to the Stags' hopes of progression.

We think Michael Flynn will go with the XI below for this evening's crucial clash.

Newport have been flexible in their approach this season, but we think they'll look to match the 3-5-2 formation applied by the Stags this evening.

It puts a lot of emphasis on the back three and Joe Day in goal. Day has been one of the standout performers across the whole division this season and he'll have a mix of experience and youth ahead of him.

Mark O'Brien will join Newport stalwart Micky Demetriou in the defensive line, with 20-year-old Manchester United loanee Regan Poole alongside them. Poole looks to have a big future and is clearly a composed and comfortable players despite his tender age.

Matthew Dolan, Josh Sheehan and Scott Bennett should make up the midfield, with Dan Butler and Robbie Willmott adding the width up and down the flank. Their battle with the opposite numbers from Mansfield will be crucial in securing the win.

Up front, Jamille Matt has been in good form of late and Padraig Amond is always a threat. They've shared 28 goals this season and will hope to give the Exiles an advantage to take to Field Mill.
