According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are widely expected to cancel Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s loan spell, with the defender likely to return to Manchester United.

Leeds moved to sign Borthwick-Jackson during the summer transfer window, with the defender arriving at Elland Road on a season-long loan from Manchester United and instantly featuring in the starting XI, against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup.

However, the 20-year-old’s only real opportunities have come in the cup, with Borthwick-Jackson making just one Championship appearance for the Whites.

He has featured in all four rounds Leeds played in the Carabao Cup, and the defender’s sixth appearance of the season came in the FA Cup on Sunday, with a rare opportunity against Newport County.

Reports from the YEP have confirmed that Leeds have completed the signing of Laurens De Bock from Club Brugge, with the left-back's arrival likely to spell the end of Borthwick-Jackson at Elland Road.

Reading have been linked with a move for the Manchester United defender this month, with Jaap Stam reportedly willing to offer the defender first-team football at the Madejski Stadium, with a view to signing him permanently from Old Trafford.

The Verdict

It is no surprise to hear that De Bock’s arrival could spell the end for Borthwick-Jackson at Elland Road, as the defender’s opportunities are set to become even more limited.

The 20-year-old has been a huge disappointment at Elland Road, failing to offer anything to Thomas Christiansen’s squad in their play-off push in the Championship.
