Charlton Athletic midfielder Jonathan Leko has admitted that he was disappointed at the club's failure to secure victory over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Having entered the clash on a three-game unbeaten run in the Championship, the Addicks made a confident start at The Valley with Conor Gallagher going close before Lyle Taylor fired in his fourth goal of the season to give Lee Bowyer's side the lead.

Despite dominating Forest in the first-half of the clash, Charlton were unable to extend their advantage and were made to pay by the visitors in the second period as Albert Adomah equalised in the 78th minute.

Following this setback, the Addicks nearly clinched all three points as Jonny Williams' effort drifted agonisingly past the post.

With Charlton having to settle for a 1-1 draw, Leko revealed that the outcome of the club's clash left a bittersweet feeling for him and his team-mates.

Speaking to the club's official website, the 20-year-old admitted: "We're all positive in the dressing room after that performance.

"But it was a bit disappointing we didn't get the three points.

"In the first half, we were just pressing and wanted to press as high as we could.

"They couldn't get anywhere near us and we could've been three or four up in the first-half so we were happy with that."

Leko, who has now made three appearances for Charlton this season since joining on loan from West Bromwich Albion, will be looking to help his side secure a positive result on Saturday against Brentford.

The Verdict

Whereas drawing against a side like Forest is far from embarrassing, the fact that Charlton were frustrated that they didn't secure a win illustrates the strength of the club's mentality.

Having led the Addicks back to the Championship earlier this year, it is clear that Bowyer wants his players to push themselves in order to successfully compete at this level.

If Charlton can continue their fantastic start to the 2019/20 campaign, there is no reason why cannot at the very least challenge for a top-half finish.
