Birmingham City should snatch Lewis Grabban from under Nottingham Forest’s nose.

The Bournemouth striker is understood to be most likely to go to Nottingham Forest for around £5 million, but Birmingham have shown interest according to the Birmingham Mail. Securing him could ensure that they avoid a repeat of the relegation scrap they faced this season.

The 30-year-old had another strong season in which he demonstrated his pedigree. 12 goals for a struggling Sunderland side were followed by eight for promotion hunting Aston Villa. It showcased his ability to score regardless of the system or quality of his teammates.

His game revolves around his nature as a finisher, rather than helping build attacks. This is evidenced by his solitary assist across both loan spells. Yet this is the type of player that Garry Monk needs in his Birmingham side. Sam Gallagher top scored in the league with a mere six goals. This was sufficient to avoid relegation as the goals were spread around the side. However, a proven finisher such as Grabban would provide reliability and a constant goal threat. Such a player demands attention from defenders and frees up space for the other attacking options.

His exploits last season were not enough to convince Bournemouth to keep hold of him. He is not of Premier League quality, yet he has consistently demonstrated his ability to shine in the second tier. Birmingham will face a battle to snatch him from Nottingham Forest who will be demonstrating greater ambition. However, if they manage to do so, they will be in a cracking position for next season.
