Olly Lee is currently enjoying a loan spell with League One Gillingham from Scottish side Hearts, five years after he left St Andrews after a two-year spell with the Blues.

Birmingham signed Lee initially on an initial loan deal from Barnet in March 2013 that ran until the end of the 2012/13 season, and although he did not make a first team appearance during the second half of that campaign he did impress for the Blues’ development squad becoming the captain of the club’s under 21s.

The Blues decided to make the move a permanent one the following summer, with Lee signing a one-year deal with the option of a further year, and the 28-year-old had to wait for his chance to impress at the start of the 2013/14 season, before finally making his league debut for the club in a 4-0 defeat at Leeds in October.

Lee went on to make 16 appearances in the Championship, registering his one and only goal for the Blues in a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town, as Lee Clark managed to guide the club to safety with a comeback from 2-0 down at Bolton Wanderers to earn a crucial point on the last day of the season.

The following season saw Lee frozen out of the first team during the opening half of the campaign, with the 28-year-old eventually joining League Two Plymouth Argyle on a month-long deal in January 2015 - and after impressing in his seven appearances during that month his loan move was extended until the end of the term.

Following the end of the 2014/15 season Birmingham released Lee, with the midfielder going on to sign for Luton Town on an initial short term deal in August 2015, and that deal was extended until 2017 in September after impressing with his performances at the start of the campaign.
