Aston Villa find themselves in firm promotion contention ahead of the Sky Bet Championship run-in, with Steve Bruce’s side currently sitting fourth in the table.

There are eight fixtures of the season remaining, with Villa looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the top-six and potentially challenge for automatic promotion.

It has been a select group of players that have put Villa into promotion contention, with Birkir Bjarnason one player who has forced his way back into the fold at Villa Park.

The Icelandic midfielder is the latest feature in our FLW Spotlight, as we consider whether he should stick around at Villa:

Despite forcing his way in from the cold this season, Bjarnason hasn’t been fully trusted by Bruce on the big occasion, with Mile Jedinak or Glenn Whelan often preferred in a holding midfield role.

However, the 29-year-old has still featured on 20 occasions this season in claret and blue, scoring two goals and registering one assist during that time.

Bjarnason wins an impressive 1.3 aerial duels per game, but from a midfield role, his passing could be improved.

The midfielder averages 17.4 passes per game, which come at a success rate of just 77%.
