Blackpool have entered their new era positively so far this term under Simon Grayson. The former Leeds United manager has been able to galvanise the team with only one loss in their first six fixtures.

A theme within the squad shows how Grayson has united youth and experience. 19-year-old defender Rocky Bushiri and 22-year-old midfielders Jordan Thompson and Callum Guy have all featured heavily, while 30-year-old Jay Spearing and 33-year-old Liam Feeney have also played a prominent role in.

Though, certain players still remain in the fringes of the first-team and will hope they are able to get a breakthrough moment to jump-start their senior career.

Here, we list two...

Calum MacDonald

The 21-year-old left-back departed Derby County in the summer for a two-year-deal deal, with an option for a third, at Bloomfield Road. Since moving to the North-West, MacDonald has struggled to solidify a position in the various formations Grayson has deployed so far this year.

He did, however, make his full debut in Blackpool's 5-1 win over Morecambe in the EFL trophy. Despite being a natural left-back, MacDonald has the capabilities of moving further forward - something Grayson was pleased with when he signed.

Due to his versatility, MacDonald will hope he can challenge for a spot somewhere down the left-side of the pitch, or hope he can adapt effectively to one of Grayson's systems. Grayson has used wing-backs regularly and MacDonald may have the potential to fulfil this role.

Rowan Roache

Rowan Roache has been the boarders of the first-team for the past year. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder made eight appearances in the 2017/18 season, but was sent on loan to Derby's U23s in February 2019.

Since his short loan spell, where he made four appearances, Roache has failed to make an appearance. When it was announced, there was confusion amongst Blackpool supporters for why Roache went on-loan, and now their perplexing thoughts are understandable as it could be seen Roach's growth towards the first-team has regressed.

The future of Roache's career at Blackpool looks further in doubt due to his contract ending this summer. Wherever Roache's long-term future is, optimism surrounding the 19-year-old earlier in his short career. A move elsewhere or a chance to prove himself in the first-team are the only two possibilities for Roache to breakout from the reserves.
