Ever since Sunderland bid £3m for Bournemouth’s Max Gradel last week, the deal has looked almost certain to go through barring agreement of personal terms.
Gradel, 29, only featured 11 times for Bournemouth last season following a big money move from Ligue 1 side AS Saint Etienne in the summer of 2015.
Gradel impressed at Dean Court during the early stages of his first season, but a serious knee injury suffered on 29 August 2015 against Leicester left him out for 6 months, and he struggled to re-establish himself in the side following his return.
Sunderland looked set to seal the move for the Ivorian winger this summer, but late interest from Toulouse and Nantes could scupper the deal.
Although a move for Aiden McGeady appears close, Simon Grayson will still need to improve his attacking firepower, with Jeremain Lens and Wahbi Khazri both rumoured to be leaving the club.
