All in all, it has been a fairly solid debut season in the Football League for Salford City.

Following their first-ever promotion from the National League last year, the Ammies are currently tenth in the League Two table, eight points off the play-offs, with nine games of the season remaining, meaning there is a strong chance they will be playing in the fourth-tier of English football again next season.

But given the ambition there is around the club, you feel they will want to go even better than that in the 2020/21 campaign, and even mount a push for promotion to League One in that campaign.

To do that however, there is a strong chance they will need to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window, which could mean reigniting their interest in some previous targets.

Here, we've taken a look at two transfer links that Salford could explore again in the summer transfer window in their attempts to further improve their squad.

Christophe Berra

With Berra having previously played Premier League and Championship level, his experience and ability would surely be a huge boost for Salford if they were to secure his services.

The League Two side reportedly saw an offer to Berra turned down by the Hearts centre back himself in the January transfer window, with the Scotland international instead joining Scottish Championship side Dundee on loan, having seemingly fallen down the pecking order at Tynecastle.

But with Berra's move away from Hearts only temporary, and the Edinburgh club's current situation making things uncertain for them both on and off the pitch at the minute, you have to wonder whether Salford will be tempted to try their luck again in the summer.

Ashley Hunter

Another player Salford could look to target in the summer, is one they were able to secure a deal for back in January.

Since joining on loan for the remainder of the season from League One side Fleetwood Town, attacker Ashley Hunter has scored five goals in 11 appearances for Salford, helping Graham Alexander's side to five of their 13 league wins this season in the process.

As a result, Salford will surely be keen on an extended deal for the 24-year-old in the summer, and with Fleetwood going well in the battle for promotion to the Championship even without him this season, the Football League debutants could possibly be in luck.
