Barnsley’s inevitable relegation battle is in full swing, with the Tykes heading into the international break separated from the bottom three by goal difference alone.

There is a long road ahead for manager Jose Morais, with the final eight games set to decide the club’s fate in what is just their second season back in the championship.

Rocked by the departure of former boss Paul Heckingbottom to Leeds mid-way through the campaign, Morais has done well in keeping the Oakwell side in contention and will be well rewarded should he keep his new side afloat.

Regardless of their status next term there will be huge changes in personnel, with defender Andy Yiadom one of the first to leave when his contract expires, with a Premier League switch on the cards.

The Ghanaian will be out the door and this duo may not be far behind him…

The Swansea City loanee has been sensational since linking up with the Tykes in January, bagging six goals in only eight starts to keep the South Yorkshire side above water.

His strikes are proving invaluable and the player is showing all the signs of succeeding in the Premier League with his parent club should they remain in the top flight under Carlos Carvalhal.

The 21-year-old is talented on the ball and possesses a real eye for goal, all the hallmarks of a dangerous forward at any level of the game.

If he performs well in preseason then he will remain in South Wales, but if another loan switch is on the cards then it will be with a club much higher up the second-tier table.

30-year-old Hammill re-joined Barnsley for a second permanent spell back in 2015 from Rotherham United, helping his side to promotion via the League One play-offs.

A regular in the side this term, Hammill has missed just eight league games but his stats are less than impressive, with the winger yet to chip in with a goal or an assist.

Such an abysmal return will not sit well with Morais, who is likely to let the popular man’s contract run down in the coming months and allow him to depart on a free transfer.

Barnsley’s billionaire Chinese owner Chien Lee is likely to find the cash to fund an overhaul of the squad in the summer and it is extremely likely that a replacement for Hammill will be found with relative ease.
