Relegation to the third tier is a distinct possibility for Birmingham City in the closing weeks of the season, with Garry Monk’s side entrenched in the bottom three on goal difference heading into the international break.

The Blues’ third manager of the campaign following the sackings of Harry Redknapp and Steve Cotterill, the former Boro boss has been handed the unenviable task of steering the hapless West Midlanders away from trouble.

A task completed on the final day of last season by Redknapp, Monk will have to go above and beyond the achievements of the former FA Cup winning manager if he is to enter the summer break preparing for life in England’s second division.

An overhaul is required, with midfielder David Davis likely to depart St Andrew’s with his contract set to expire in the summer and this pair could also be on Monk’s hitlist if their performances do not improve…
