Another promising campaign in the Championship once again culminated in play-off heartbreak for Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls were defeated by Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town in the play-off semi-finals on penalties, who then of course went on to defeat Reading in the play-off final to secure a place in the Premier League for the first time in their history.

As for Wednesday though, the Hillsborough faithful will be bitterly disappointed that a club of their size and a team of their quality once again failed to clinch promotion.

One thing we do know ahead of next season is that Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal has been backed by the club to lead Wednesday to promotion at the third-time of asking, and will be in charge for the 2017/18 campaign, however will this be the final chance?

Recruitment is vitally important for Wednesday's progress next term, and they need to get rid of the deadwood that ultimately let them down this term.

With that being said, FLW writer here names TWO players that should depart Wednesday and TWO players that should sign in the summer...

Axe: Atdhe Nuhiu

The 27-year old's time at Hillsborough looks to be almost up, with game time becoming more limited by the season.

The forward failed to score a single goal throughout the duration of last season, making just 23 appearances for Carvalhal's men.

Wednesday definitely need to cash in on the unwanted forward in the summer, as he is likely to be a hefty wage package considering his lengthy stint at the club.

Axe: Lewis McGugan

Having failed to make a single appearance for the Owls last term, McGugan is another player who looks to be on his way out of the Yorkshire club.

The midfielder has made a total of 34 appearances for the Owls, and possesses vast Championship experience that would be a key asset for any second-tier outfit.

But with Wednesday looking to challenge for promotion to the Premier League once again, the 28-year old needs to leave for the sake of his AND Wednesday's future.

Sign: Aaron Mooy

Mooy should be the first name on Carlos Carvalhal's shortlist, due to his influential performances for Huddersfield Town last term.

The Australian was one of the Terriers’ star players throughout what would become an historic campaign, which culminated in promotion to the Premier League for the first time, and his performances caught the eye of those in charge of recruitment at Hillsborough.

The industrious midfielder is unlikely to break into Pep Guardiola's Manchester City starting line-up, therefore with the right fee, the Owls could definitely lure the 26-year old to Hillsborough.

Sign: Tom Ince

The versatile winger netted 15 times in 50 appearances for the Rams last term, adding to his impressive tally of 25 in 83 for the Midlands club.

Wednesday need the firepower and energy on the wing to ignite yet another promotion push, and with his ability to play out wide or behind the striker, he would be a tremendous acquisition.

So...What do you think Wednesday fans? Should you sell Nuhiu and McGugan? Should you sign Mooy and Ince? Leave all of your thoughts in the comments below!
