Since relegation from the top flight in 2004, Leeds United are probably having their best campaign in 13 years.

There is a real chance of a return to the Premier League with the club sitting 5th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

They even spent three years in the third tier before gaining promotion to their current division in 2010 after finishing second in League One.

With Leeds having one of their best campaigns in recent history, they owe it all to boss Garry Monk who has worked wonders to get his team into this position having only arrived last summer following his sacking at Swansea City.

Monk is, of course, one of the most promising young English managers currently in the game at the age of 37, and retired as a professional footballer in 2014 having been a Swans player for a whole decade - racking up over 200 appearances for the south Wales outfit.

But here are two things you probably never knew about the current Leeds United boss...

Knows what it takes to win promotion

His career, mostly with Swansea City, was filled with highs and even more so when he helped win them promotion on two separate occasions.

Garry Monk's initial success was at the end of the 2007/08 season when he captained the Swans to promotion to the second tier for the first time in 24 years.

He later achieved a similar feat in 2011 when he continued with the armband to lead Swansea City to the Premier League, and would be awarded with a three-year contract before becoming manager in 2014.

Giant killer

In the Premier League's 25 year history, there had been only two managers before Garry Monk to have beaten both Arsenal and Manchester United in the same season, home and away.

Monk completed this as Swansea boss in the 2014/15 campaign, and led them to their highest ever position - finishing 8th in the top flight.

Later that year he was given the boot and departed the Liberty Stadium, alongside Pep Clotet, who he works with at the moment at Leeds United.
