It's been a bit of a miserable season for Aston Villa at the moment, and there is a real danger they could be relegated to League One come the end of the season.

Following their demise from the Premier League last term, things have not really picked up, with managerial changes and a host of new players not having the effect desired.

However, Villa are a club rich with history, and they are still one of the bigger clubs in the land, not to mention just in the Championship.

They have won the FA Cup seven times, and the League Cup five times, while they have also had top division success as recent as the 1980's.

There is plenty to delve into when you look into the history of Aston Villa, but are there things that not many people actually knew?

FLW writer Lee Connor has taken a look at TWO things that people probably never knew about Aston Villa...

They were the first club in England to forfeit a shirt sponsorship fee

Aston Villa were the first club in Britain to promote a charity instead of opting for sponsorship money from a company.

Between 2008 and 2010, the club promoted the Acorns Children's Hospice.

Clubs have since followed suit, with Liverpool donning one off shirts, and Southampton reaching an agreement with Aid charity Mary's Meals for their training kit back in 2015.

Their ground has hosted more FA Cup semi-finals than any other club ground

Before the new Wembley was built, Villa Park was often selected as the ground to host one of the FA Cup semi-finals along with Old Trafford and Hillsborough.

The old classic ground has seen some unforgettable moments, including the famous extra time winner from Ryan Giggs for Man United in 1999.

The new Wembley has since taken away this honour for Villa, but the club still hold the record of hosting an FA Cup semi-final 55 times in their famous history.
