Reading FC will be hoping they can prove to be the surprise package in the Championship this season under the management of Veljko Paunovic.

The Royals are currently sat second in the Championship table after four wins from their opening four matches.

The club's supporters are certain to be impressed with what they have seen so far from their side, after a disappointing couple of seasons in the second-tier.

The Berkshire-based side finished 14th in the second-tier standings last term under the management of Mark Bowen, who was replaced in the summer.

The Royals have been active in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Josh Laurent, Lewis Gibson and Tomás Esteves arriving at the Madejski Stadium.

We take a look at TWO things we've clearly learnt about Reading FC in the summer transfer window so far.

They've added much-needed depth to specific positions

Reading have already struggled with various injury problems so far in the 2020/21 season, which will be frustrating for Paunovic.

The likes of Andy Yiadom and Felipe Araruna have been ruled out of action through injury, so a right-back certainly needed to be on Paunovic's wish-list.

Reading recently completed the signing of FC Porto defender Tomás Esteves (pictured above) on a season-long loan deal, with the right-back having raving reviews from a number of supporters from the Portuguese supporters.

Lewis Gibson has also previously arrived in the summer transfer window, to strengthen the depth in the Reading defence even further this season.

They still need to move some of the 'deadwood' on

Reading have got some deals over the line already, which will be pleasing to see, but that's not to say that they're done with their transfer business just yet.

The Royals managed to shift Marc McNulty out on loan for the 2020/21 season which would have been the ideal move for both parties involved.

But the likes of Sam Smith and Sam Baldock remain on the club's books, and you would imagine that the club will be looking at moving the pair on in the near future, with their game time likely to be restricted this season.
