This weekend sees the last round of Championship fixtures before the final international break of the calendar year.

Matchday 17 will see the 24 second-tier sides battle it out once more before the two-week break to facilitate the final round of UEFA Nations League fixtures in the group stages as well as several international friendlies.

Tony Pulis’ men host Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon looking to improve on their current place inside the top-six.

Boro are unbeaten in five matches, and this could be the time for Pulis to experiment a little to turn three consecutive league draws into wins.

The fact there is one game left before a two-week break, it could be considered as a free hit for many sides, even with three points to fight for to try something out ahead of the international fixtures.

With that said, here are two things Pulis must trial at Middlesbrough in the final fixture before the international break.

The 23-year-old was the standout performer in the League Cup win over Premier League Crystal Palace, and there has been a clamouring to see Lewis Wing included from the start for Middlesbrough.

After the impressive win, Boro recorded a third successive draw, a goalless meeting with Stoke last weekend.

There is no reason why Wing should not be starting and offering something different to a stagnant looking Middlesbrough squad.

Tony Pulis has played several different formations this season and not been able to stick to one he likes the most.

Considering Boro are fourth in the division, they have done pretty well considering their alternating systems.

Having scored the least amount of goals in the top eight, there is no reason why Pulis can’t try out Britt Assombalonga and Jordan Hugill up front together to try and offer more goals to the team.

It might work, it might not, but there is no better time than now to try that theory out.
