It was a hectic end to the January transfer window for Nottingham Forest and Aitor Karanka, with the new Spanish boss at the City Ground moving to bring a host of new faces to the club.

There was also a sea of departures, with fringe players moving on, whilst Joe Worrall was bringing plenty of interest from the Premier League, with Burnley desperately trying to sign the young English centre-back.

Ultimately, Forest retained Worrall’s service, with the pressure now on the 21-year-old to keep improving and help to drag Karanka’s side back up the table to give them something to build on for next season.

Worrall has been extremely impressive during his early days as a senior pro, but like all young players, there are areas of his game that need to be improved, which are highlighted by whoscored.com.

Here at FLW, we take a look at those weaknesses and where the defender needs to improve…

This is something that will naturally improve alongside experience, but Forest really need Worrall to work on this as soon as possible.

Despite his age, Worrall is Forest’s leading defender, but Karanka will be well aware that his side ship a lot of goals.

Only Sunderland and Burton Albion have conceded more than Forest’s 48 goals this season, which ultimately comes down to the concentration of their defensive unit.

Worrall needs to step up in this particular area.

It sounds bizarre that a defender’s weakness is his tackling, but Worrall’s strengths are very much his reading of the game and getting on the ball to start Forest’s attack.

Worrall has already picked up six yellow cards this season, along with one red card.

Unlike Worrall’s concentration, his tackling will not improve naturally with age, he needs to be working on this in training.

Timing is everything and it is certainly something that Karanka and his staff need to be drilling into Worrall in the near future.
