Luton Town moved off the foot of the Championship table with an excellent 2-1 win at home to Brentford last night.

Shandon Baptiste turned an early free-kick from Luke Berry into his own net before Ollie Watkins, Said Benrahma and Josh Dasilva all had shots saved by Hatters keeper Simon Sluga.

Martin Cranie lashed in a second on the stroke of half-time when a Berry free-kick fell to his feet inside the area.

Bryan Mbeumo and Benrahma forced Sluga into saves after the interval before Harry Cornick fired straight at David Raya.

Watkins slotted in from Mads Roerslev's pull-back but the hosts saw the game out.

Here are TWO things that Graeme Jones will have learned about Luton last night...

They can dig deep

Luton had to withstand a lot of pressure on their goal from Brentford but the Hatters coped well as they put their bodies on the line to see out the win.

The side had to dig deep to secure the three points but the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Matty Pearson threw everything they had at the ball while Glen Rea did an outstanding job in trying to protect the defence.

The Hatters have the worst defensive record in the Championship this season but Jones would have seen a different type of Luton last night.

Berry works as the attacking midfielder

Izzy Brown took up the role of attacking midfielder in the 4-4-2 diamond not long ago but Berry assumed the responsibility with an excellent performance against Brentford.

He defended well at the tip of the diamond and frustrated Brentford from playing their usual free-flowing football. He then pulled the strings in the minimal time that Luton did have on the ball with passes that were crisp and accurate

Jones may have had doubts about the role that Berry could play behind the front two but he would have showed enough to stay there for the foreseeable future.
