Leeds United have given themselves an outside chance of breaking back into the Sky Bet Championship’s promotion race, after Paul Heckingbottom recorded his first victory as head-coach over the weekend against Brentford.

Liam Cooper’s first-half header at Elland Road on Saturday was enough to secure three points for Leeds, who were victorious for the first time in 2018 after an extremely tough run at the start of the calendar year.

The Whites had been showing signs of improvement under Heckingbottom, and were unlucky to only leave Derby County with a point last Wednesday, after defensive mistakes allowed the Rams back into the contest.

Cooper was one player who came in for criticism following the draw at Derby, however, Leeds’ captain bounced back with an improved performance against Brentford.

Here at FLW, we have looked at the numbers behind Cooper’s performance against Brentford on Saturday.

In his 90 minute appearance, Cooper scored the game’s only goal, but it was perhaps his defensive contribution that Leeds’ supporters will be delighted with.

The 26-year-old made two tackles and one interception at Elland Road against a lively Brentford attack, as well as making eight clearances.

Cooper wasn’t tempted to play long, despite Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s presence, with Leeds’ captain only hitting two long balls in the 90 minutes.
