2 Sunderland transfer sagas to keep an eye on this week

Published

on

Sunderland fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to Lincoln City last night, which ended their impressive unbeaten run in League One.

Whilst there were valid excuses for the poor performance, with Lee Johnson’s squad stretched right now, it was a poor display and highlighted the need for a few new faces to help the group for the run-in.

There has been plenty of rumours involving the Black Cats, but Trai Hume is the only player through the door so far this month. However, that doesn’t mean more business won’t happen and here we look at TWO transfer sagas to keep an eye on this week…

Will Patrick Roberts sign?

A deal for the Manchester City wide man, who is currently on loan in France with Troyes, seemed to be advanced last week, however things have gone quiet.

It’s not an area of the pitch that Sunderland desperately need to strengthen but the prospect of signing Roberts, who has shone at Celtic in the past, was an exciting one given his undoubted ability.

So, he would be a coup and it will be interesting to see if this move does happen.

Have any of these 30 ex-Sunderland players ever played abroad?

Can they bring in a forward?

Nathan Broadhead’s injury was a big blow for Sunderland and it has left them short on attackers with a major reliance on Ross Stewart right now, who is thankfully delivering for the Black Cats.

He needs support though, and a host of names have been linked with a switch to the Stadium of Light, including Daniel Jebbison, Cameron Archer and Freddie Ladapo.

Therefore, you would imagine a new attacker will arrive but it remains to be seen who that player will be.
