Sunderland will be looking forward to the season resuming - providing it does - as they look to get themselves into the play-offs in League One and then, hopefully for them, into the Championship for next season.

It's been a typically dramatic campaign on Wearside with Phil Parkinson's tenure under threat early doors after taking over from Jack Ross.

Things have improved since then but some issues still need to be addressed if they are going to get into the top six - though things are so congested a top two finish is almost as likely.

The break continues, though, and though it means we have to wait to see the sport return, it could be beneficiary for some.

Here, we take a look at two players at the club that could be aided by the prolonged pause in the season:

Bailey Wright

Wright's injury in February looked set to leave him missing pretty much all of the rest of the season at the time.

However, he's now got plenty of time to fully recover from the issue with an ankle ligament and that'll be a boost for Sunderland as he had impressed since joining from Bristol City.

Elliot Embleton

Embleton was highlighted as one to watch this season after some promising loan spells away from the club.

However, he's suffered badly with hamstring issues this year and has missed much of the campaign.

Now, though, he's got extra time to work on things and could still feature in a crucial run-in for the Black Cats.
