Sunderland's fate this season is still very much up in the air, with two pieces of silverware within reach.

They're likely to push Portsmouth all the way in the EFL Trophy final, but in terms of winning League One there's a lot of work to do.

Realistically, the only goal is finishing second and earning promotion back to the Championship.

Jack Ross has done a wonderful job of turning the club around and making sure they're on the right track. Big earners were shipped off or sacked, whilst good, honest professionals were brought in to replace them.

All around Wearside there's a buzz, perhaps a fearful one that they might miss out on promotion, but certainly a positivity that the club has had the clean sweep it needed.

They've remodelled from top to bottom and as a consequence can look forward to a bright future.

The hard work never stops for the manager though and he's got a couple of big decisions to make, as we examine below.

Adam Matthews Contract

The full back is out of contract this summer and Ross has to decide what he's going to do with him.

He's been a regular feature, but can he make the step up?

With Luke O'Nien, Reece James and Denver Hume all around the first team, Matthews might not be one he wants to spend his budget on.

Bryan Oviedo Future

Is there a big decision to make here?

The Costa Rican is a big earner at the Stadium of Light, but hasn't played nearly as often as he might have liked.

He was being allowed to leave in January, but the deal collapsed.

Ross has to wonder whether a step up in level might be good for the defender.
