Sunderland have made a positive start to life in League 1, which is to be expected with a number of last year's Championship side still at the club.

The appointment of Jack Ross has proved to be a success at the Stadium of Light, with Sunderland only being defeated once this season and they are currently on a four match unbeaten run.

They will go into their game against Shrewsbury Town confident of maintaining their impressive start to the season.

Sunderland will have to be wary that they don't leave too much of a gap between themselves and Portsmouth, who are currently the league leaders, and already have opened up a seven point gap between themselves and Jack Ross' side.

The form shown by youngster Josh Maja is a huge positive for Ross' side, and his good form has seen rumours about the strikers future come into question.

But what mistakes have Sunderland made this season that will need to be looked at in January?

Find out here.....

Maja has been impressive form this season and is the league's top goalscorer with nine goals to his name.

But with rumoured interest from the likes of Manchester City and Spurs, Maja could be tempted to see out his contract which expires at the end of this season and move on to a bigger club.

Manager Jack Ross will be keen not to drag the contract talks between Maja and the club for much longer and will want the issue resolved as soon as possible as the youngster is crucial to the Sunderland team this season.

Sunderland were previously linked with a move for the Peterborough winger but Maddison stayed put and has gone on to feature in nine matches for their League 1 rivals.

But with only three starts to his name this season, we could still see him move to the Stadium of Light.

His creativity could prove to be a real asset in Jack Ross' side and it would certainly fire them up the table and challenging for the title.
