For Newcastle United fans, it's been a fantastic start to the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign, in a season where they really do need to bounce back from a dismal campaign last year.

Rafa Benitez's men sit third in the table, with seven wins, one draw, and three losses, and take on Brentford this Saturday afternoon, in what is a very winnable game for the Geordies.

With the likes of Dwight Gayle firing on all cylinders with seven goals already this campaign, and Ayoze Perez, Alexandar Mitrovic and Daryl Murphy all under the Spaniard's ranks, you would think that the Tyneside club don't really need to strengthen the forward line any more.

However, in order to cement their promotion push the first time of asking, Benitez needs to add a striker to his armoury to consistently partner the prolific Gayle.

With that being said, FootballLeagueWorld writer George Harbey identifies TWO strikers that Newcastle United really need to sign in January...

Scott Hogan

Perhaps the most clinical striker in the Championship, the Brentford forward has endured a phenomenal time of late.

Despite being on the sidelines for the majority of last season with a ligament injury, the 24-year-old still managed to score seven times in seven games for the London club.

And the former Rochdale man has picked up from he left off last term, netting another seven times in 11 games, leaving him tied on goals with Gayle for the season.

With the funds that Newcastle have, there is no doubt that Benitez can lure Hogan to St. James' Park in what would be an incredible acquisition.

Benik Afobe

Before moving to AFC Bournemouth in January, Afobe was perhaps one of the most prolific goal-scorers in the country.

He scored 19 times for MK Dons in what was a fantastic loan spell from Arsenal, before sealing a permanent move to Wolves, where he scored 13 in 21 games in his debut season at Molineux, leaving him joint top scorer in England with Harry Kane.

Down South, however, the 23-year-old has only managed to score four times in 17 games for Eddie Howe's men.

Afobe would be an incredible asset for Benitez' men, and would be a perfect partner up top with Gayle - this deal could really happen.
