Barnsley's star striker Sam Winnall departed to join Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week and now the Tykes will have to look at possible replacements.

The prolific striker helped himself to plenty of goals at League One and Championship level for Barnsley so his exit has left a real void up front.

Barnsley will have Tom Bradshaw and Adam Armstrong to play up top, as well as Marley Watkins' goals from midfield, but they might need to add another striker option if they are to have a successful season.

The January window is now in full swing and the Tykes will undoubtedly have been assessing the market and looking at potential incoming forwards.

It's not always easy to secure a cheap deal in January so they will have to be shrewd if they can find an affordable replacement for Winnall.

Here are 2 strikers they need to consider to fill Winnall's boots.

Nahki Wells

Nahki Wells has refused a new contract at Huddersfield so he might be available for transfer.

The Bermudan international is a proven goalscorer at this level and would be a very shrewd piece of business by Barnsley.

Omar Bogle

Grimsby's star man Omar Bogle has earned plenty of plaudits by scoring heaps of goals and terrorising League Two defences so far this season.

The 23-year-old sits joint top of the goalscoring charts in the fourth tier with 18 goals.

His physical attributes suggest that he would be capable of making the step up.
