Luton Town are currently in something of a mini-slump, with the Hatters having lost four of their last five Championship outings, meaning that the Bedfordshire based side have now slipped to 21st in the table.

Their 3-0 defeat away at Reading last weekend underlined some of the key issues which are facing Graeme Jones as he bids to keep the Hatters in the Championship following their promotion from League One last season.

Despite picking up some decent results in the early stages of the campaign, their form has now really tailed off as we head towards the midway stage of the season, plus with games to come against the likes of Leeds United and Charlton, Jones will surely be weighing up what his side have to improve upon in the coming weeks.

Here, we take a look at TWO statistics that Graeme Jones will surely be looking to improve during the international break...

Decrease the amount of goals being conceded

The Hatters now possess the joint second-worst defence in the league, with Luton having conceded 30 goals at the time of writing, thus underlining their struggles at the back of late, a negative factor that Jones will surely be looking to address over the coming weeks and months.

It was clear to see during the weekend defeat at Reading that too much space was being left between Luton's midfield and defence, which was greatly caused in parts by the fact that the Town backline was retreating too far back into the penalty area when out of possession.

Jones simply must look to ask his two lines of defence to position themselves closer together, as this will help to condense the space in which the opposition have to operate in, thus making opposition attacks easier to defend against in the defensive third of the field.

More goals needed from midfield

With both James Collins and Harry Cornick having registered five goals each, Luton's forwards have performed to a good level thus far, however Jones will be keen to see a greater goal scoring contribution from his midfielder's, with only Callum McManaman and Andrew Shinnie having scored more than one goal from the centre of the park.

It is clear that the Hatters need to work on getting more numbers in and around Messrs Collins and Cornick, as this will allow the midfielders to create more chances to score for both themselves and for others, which in theory is something that should happen quite naturally due to the deployment of a diamond in midfield on occasion.
