Phillip Cocu’s Derby County are currently on one of their best runs of the season in the Championship as they seek to close the gap on the play-off spots after what was a pretty inconsistent start to the campaign.
Much of their recent success in the league must be owed to the arrival of Wayne Rooney, with the former Manchester United star having made a huge impact for the Rams since moving to Pride Park in January, with his performances yielding two goals and two assists in all competitions so far.
The form of striking duo Chris Martin and Martyn Waghorn has certainly also helped for the Midlands based club, with both frontmen having hit the goal trail in recent games when given the nod up top by Cocu.

Despite their recent success, question marks still hang over the future of a batch of players as they run into the last few months of their current contracts at Pride Park ahead of the end of the season.
Here, we take a look at TWO soon-to-be Derby County free agents who will surely be retained this summer….
Despite having seven goals in all competitions for the Rams this term, Martin is now into the last few months of his current contract at Pride Park, thus leaving Cocu with a big decision to make.
After being shipped out on loan to Fulham, Reading and Hull in recent years, the 31-year-old’s long-term future was shrouded with doubt.
However since returning to the Midlands based club, Martin has found his scoring boots once again, thus restoring his status as one of the most feared marksmen in the whole of the second division.
With a goalscoring record that most strikers would die for, renewing Martin’s contract will surely be high up on Cocu’s list of priorities this summer.
The 30-year-old defender’s current deal is also set to expire in June of this year and at present faces something of an uncertain future at Pride Park.
With 13 appearances for the Rams to his name this term, Forsyth has largely acted as a squad player for the club this term, operating at both centre and left back on several occasions under Cocu.
With almost 200 Championship appearances to his name, the Scotsman is certainly one of the more experienced members of the current Derby squad.
Surely Cocu will have at least considered the prospect of renewing the versatile player’s contract after seeing Forsyth put in some solid performances for the Rams so far this term.
