There have been days of speculation, but Nottingham Forest look set to appoint a new manager to replace Aitor Karanka - with familiar face Martin O'Neill set to take the reins at the City Ground.

The 66-year old is obviously no stranger to those in Nottingham, having lifted the European Cup twice with the Reds, during a ten-year stint with the club.

The Irishman has been out of work since his departure from the Republic of Ireland national team at the end of November, and having managed a total of nine teams over a managerial career that spans over thirty years, he'd certainly turn the Reds' fortunes around.

Forest have been without a manager since the shock departure of Aitor Karanka last week, and with the club sitting just four points off the top six, changes will be needed for O'Neill to mark his own stamp on the team.

Here, we take a look at two signings O'Neill should look to make straight away...

Fraser Forster

It's no secret that Forest need a new goalkeeper - Costel Pantilimon has looked shaky on more than one occasion this season, and 34-year old Luke Steele is only really getting a look-in in the cup competitions.

Forster could be a fantastic signing for Forest - he's fallen massively out of favour at Southampton having failed to make an appearance for the Saints this season.

At 6-foot-7, he'd command his box magnificently well and is also a good shot-stopper. It could be a fantastic signing for the Reds.

Ronan Curtis

People would say that Forest don't really need to address their attacking options - but they struggle without Lewis Grabban up top when their top goalscorer is injured or absent for other reasons.

Ronan Curtis could be an exciting addition for Forest - he has scored nine goals and produced eight assists for League One leaders Portsmouth, and can play anywhere across the front-line.

Curtis has already been linked with a move to the Championship with the likes of Derby and Leeds both declaring an interest in the player, and with the Reds being linked with Pompey's other star-man Jamal Lowe, O'Neill would know how to get the best out of the attacker, having being called up to the Ireland squad under his management.
