Barnsley look in a safe position to make a real claim to be promoted this season, with the club in second in League One.

Luton above them look uncatchable given their form, but the Tykes will not be too bothered, and would have surely taken second place if it were offered to them at the start.

The 0-0 draw with Sunderland midweek could be seen as two points dropped at home, but Daniel Stendel may see it as a good draw against the team that is just below them in the table.

Barnsley have been a bit of a yoyo club in recent years between the Championship and League One, and one of the biggest problems has been their poor recruitment upon promotion.

They must do better this summer.

Here, we look at two players we think they must be monitoring ahead of potential summer transfers.

Do you agree, or can you think of another player that you think they should try to sign at the end of this season? Let us know in the comments section below.

Marcus Maddison

Marcus Maddison has been linked with some of the best teams in the Championship in recent months, such as Leeds, but his form has dropped since then.

Despite that, he is still Championship level, and if Barnsley are promoted, Marcus Maddison should certainly be on their wish list.

Tyler Walker

Tyler Walker has looked excellent since his move to Mansfield, and some Nottingham Forest fans have been calling for the striker to be recalled to the City Ground.

He isn’t quite Forest’s level, but for a newly promoted since (if that is the case) with Barnsley, Walker could flourish up top.
