It was the perfect return to action after the September international break for Blackburn Rovers last weekend, as they ran out 2-0 winners over Millwall at Ewood Park.

With that win lifting them into the top half of the table, manager Tony Mowbray will be keen to build on that on Saturday, when his side make the long trip to the Madejski Stadium to take on Reading.

Blackburn will be looking to make up for a 2-1 defeat from the last time they made the trip to face the Royals on Saturday, and as a result, Mowbray will have plenty to think about when it comes to choosing the starting XI he thinks is best suited to doing that.

Here, we look at who the Blackburn manager should select to face Reading on Saturday.

Having switched formation for that win over Millwall, we imagine Mowbray be better suited reverting to a more familiar 4-2-3-1 for the trip to Reading, as a result of fitness and circumstance.

Following a fourth clean sheet in five games against Millwall, Christian Walton should at least retain his place in goal for Rovers.

After employing a three-man central defence last weekend, a knock picked up by Tosin Adarabioyo means Mowbray should return to a four-man backline, with Darragh Lenihan and last weekend's goalscorer Derrick Williams continuing their impressive partnership in the centre of a back four, while captain Elliott Bennett and Greg Cunningham ought to revert to more familiar full-back positions following their roles as wing-backs on the right and left of the pitch, respectively.

Last week Mowbray electing to go with the more attack-minded 19-year-old John Buckley alongside Bradley Johnson in the midfield, although with Reading likely to be expected to go for the win on home soil, the Rovers boss should bring the more solid and combative Lewis Travis back into the lineup against the Royals, handing the 21-year-old his 50th Blackburn appearance in the process.

In the wide midfield roles, Stewart Downing's work rate, ability, and versatility continue to impress, so the veteran should keep his place in the side, while Joe Rothwell - who has been challenged by Mowbray to earn his place in the side - should be given the opportunity to do just that, with Adam Armstrong the man we think should drop out after struggling to make an impact so far this season.

The central attacking midfield position meanwhile, will surely belong to Bradley Dack, who has two goals in his last two games, and put on a performance against Millwall that suggested he was back to his best not just in terms of goalscoring, but also his all-round creativity.

If selected, it will be the 25-year-old's 100th appearance for the club since he signed from Gillingham just over two years ago.

Upfront, meanwhile, that more robust approach on the road could provide the perfect opportunity to bring the presence, physicality, and natural finishing instinct of Danny Graham back into the side in order to break down the Reading defence while offering Blackburn an outlet of their own, with Sam Gallagher and the aforementioned Armstrong yet to really prove themselves in such a role.
