Aston Villa prised James Bree away from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee on Wednesday and it has left the Tykes light in defence.

The 19-year-old was a key part of the Barnsley defence and his absence will be sorely felt as he becomes just one of a number of players looking to leave the Yorkshire outfit in this January transfer window.

Barnsley's key marksman Sam Winnall joined rivals Sheffield Wednesday whilst Conor Hourihane is attracting widespread attention and Marley Watkins seems intent on leaving too.

Poor Barnsley are left with very few options over the pitch but they definitely need to replace James Bree before the deadline next week.

James Bree was a talented right back and the teenage starlet liked to bomb forward as well as offering solidity defensively.

Here are 2 right backs that Barnsley must consider to replace James Bree before the end of the January transfer window.

Tendayi Darikwa

Burnley right back Tendayi Darikwa is not getting a chance for the Clarets with Matt Lowton's impressive form keeping him out of the side.

The 25-year-old has yet to make a Premier League appearance but he has Championship experience which would really help Barnsley.

This would probably be a loan move unless Barnsley could quickly thrash out a fee for the attack-minded full back.

James Tavernier

James Tavernier is a star at Scottish Premier League side Glasgow Rangers.

The former Newcastle, Wigan and Rotherham man can also play as a winger so he is extremely dangerous with his forward runs.

The 25-year-old is also an accomplished defender who may be tempted to try his hand in England again after a couple of years in Scotland.
