Jack Marriott scored 13 goals for Derby County in all competitions under Frank Lampard last season, but the striker has struggled to make an impact since Phillip Cocu took charge of the club in the summer.

Despite his play-off heroics against Leeds United at the end of last season, the 25-year-old has found himself in and out of the starting line-up this term - with nine of 16 Championship outings coming from the substitutes' bench.

Only Harry Wilson scored more goals for Derby than Marriott did last season, but the striker has found the net just once this campaign and is without a goal in his last 14 matches - since the 2-1 defeat to Bristol City in August.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, here are two reasons why you wouldn't blame Marriott for wanting to leave Derby...

His lack of game time

Marriott may have only scored one goal this season, but he's only started seven games in the league and realistically, all of Derby's strikers have struggled to score.

He's shown on numerous occasions that he's capable of making an impact for Derby in the Championship. For starters, he scored 13 goals for the Rams last season - only Harry Wilson scored more.

He also showed on numerous occasions last season that he's capable of making an impact in the big matches - he scored against Chelsea and Manchester United in the FA Cup and also found the net three times in the play-offs.

With this in mind, Marriott probably feels that he deserves to be starting matches more often, so it's easy to understand why he might be frustrated in that sense.

He's often been played out of position

Not only has Marriott been forced to make an impact from the bench this season, but he's often been played out of position too.

QUIZ: Can you remember the outcome of Derby County’s last 16 Boxing Day matches?

He's naturally a striker, but he's often been used by Cocu on the right of the front three in a 4-2-3-1 system, with Chris Martin leading the line up front.

He's struggled to adapt to the wide position and has found it hard to make an impact, given that it's not his natural position, it's easy to have sympathy for him.
