West Brom are on the lookout for a new manager after they sacked Darren Moore and Preston's Alex Neil is thought to be a leading contender.

Albion are currently fourth in the Championship and arguably boast the best squad in the division after they kept hold of many players despite relegation.

Therefore, it's a job that will attract plenty of candidates but the Express & Star have revealed that Neil is a man interesting the board at The Hawthorns.

On one hand, you can see why. He has done a fine job with Preston and has a promotion on his CV after he took Norwich to the Premier League through the play-offs.

But, there will also be doubts as to whether he is a definite upgrade on Moore and here we look at TWO reasons why Albion should steer clear of the 37-year-old...

His style of play

This is not a major criticism of the manager, because Preston score goals and are exciting to watch at times.

However, anyone who has seen them play will realise quickly they are direct, aggressive and play off a target man.

Again, that's not a criticism but you have to remember how Albion fans reacted to Tony Pulis' approach and it's clear they want something more stylish to watch.

So, someone like Slavisa Jokanovic would tick more boxes than Neil.

It's a big step up

As well as that, there is a lot more expectancy for the manager of West Brom than there is Preston.

North End work on a very small budget and Neil has wonderfully found lower league gems to step up but he would be managing players who have hundreds of Premier League appearances under their belt at The Hawthorns.

He ultimately struggled with Norwich as they went up and straight back down and Albion fans would be questioning whether he can achieve what they'd want in the long-term.
