There was some concerning news for West Brom fans today, after reports linked with Matt Phillips with a move to the Premier League.

The Mirror claim that both Burnley and Cardiff are interested in doing a deal for the 27-year-old, who has scored five goals for the Baggies this season.

As well as that, he has weighed in with six assists and has generally impressed with his pace, power and ability on the ball.

Boss Darren Moore has moved the former QPR man to a more central role this season too and it has brought a lot of balance to the team.

Even though Albion would be reluctant to sell given the position they are in, the reality is that with 18 months left on his deal, the power could belong to the player.

Yet, here we outline TWO reasons why the Baggies simply have to hold on to the player this month...

Firstly, it's because Phillips is crucial to their promotion hopes.

He isn't a bit-part player or someone who has a questionable attitude following relegation. In fact, he has been consistent and impressive.

Therefore, losing a key man as you try and win promotion is obviously going to be a major setback for Moore at a time when he needs to be strengthening the squad.

Not only that, but West Brom might also be losing a key creative threat this month in the form of Harvey Barnes.

However, that one is completely out of their hands with Leicester having a recall option in his loan.

It appears he will go and to lose Phillips as well would be an incredible blow for Albion at this stage of the campaign.
