Stoke City's season is not really going to plan at the moment, with the Potters down in mid-table despite a summer spending spree.

Manager Gary Rowett has not yet managed to get his side playing to it's full potential, and they once again dropped points yesterday as they allowed Reading back into the game in the dying minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Rowett will no doubt be feeling an element of pressure, and with news emerging today that Martin O'Neill is available and potentially interesting Stoke, that pressure will continue to build.

However, we at FLW think that Rowett still should be afforded the time to get things right at the club, and moving him on just months into his tenure could well prove to be a bad move for the Potters.

With that in mind, we took a look at TWO reasons why Stoke need to stick with Rowett and not be tempted into making a move for former Ireland manager O'Neill...

He's only just getting into the job

Rowett is only months into the job with Stoke, and to move him on so quickly would be a rash decision really.

Yes he isn't getting the best out of his squad, but managers sometimes need time, and there are other factors to consider.

The players have to take some responsibility too, and it shouldn't all be on Rowett to start getting some results.

Isn't O'Neill a bit dated now?

O'Neill has had success in the past, sure, but aren't football clubs moving away from that sort of manager now in modern football?

His time with Ireland hardly ended too well, and it would be a big risk to shoehorn him into the Potters job at this stage of the season.

He has experience aplenty, but Stoke might just be better sticking with the younger Rowett for now.
