Over the weekend, it was reported that Bristol City were very interested in a January move for Sunderland striker Josh Maja

The 19-year-old scored yet again at the weekend to rescue a point for the Black Cats against Wycombe Wanderers at the Stadium of Light which will have only increased interest in him further.

That was his 10th league goal of the season and with his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign, there has been plenty of talk of a potential January exit.

Manager Jack Ross remains confident that his in-form striker will not be going anywhere, but with a new deal yet to be struck it is hard to be convinced.

Hence the interest from Bristol City.

But there are other clubs who will, and should, be eyeing a move for Maja, including those north of the border.

Here, then, are two reasons why Rangers must pip the Robins in the race for the Sunderland marksman...

Despite impressing during his spell as manager thus far, Steven Gerrard is yet to solve the club's striking problem.

Alfredo Morelos is the club's only consistent source of goals so a new addition is surely needed.

Maja would no doubt thrive under the guidance of somebody like Gerrard as well.

Whilst Rangers and Celtic are noticeably better than the rest of League One, many teams in the SPL are not.

Maja could, therefore, prove to be the crucial difference between themselves and Celtic in the race for the title, having already scored 10 goals against League One opposition.

You would fancy him to score at least that amount between January and the end of the season north of the border.
