Leeds United have yet to make any signings this January transfer window, but they have been linked with their fair share of players during the first two weeks of the winter sale.

In recent days, the Elland Road outfit have been allied with having an interest in Swansea City midfielder Daniel James.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that the Championship leaders are contemplating a move for the 21-year-old and that he is on a list of outfield targets that Marcelo Bielsa wishes to pursue.

A fee of more than £3million is believed to be the starting mark for any potential interest that is firmed-up.

The Wales international has had a solid season for Swansea this term, and his performances have alerted the attention of the Yorkshire club.

But would a move for the midfielder who has 18-months left on his deal at the Liberty Stadium be a wise for Leeds to complete?

We take a look at TWO reasons why James' potential arrival could be bad news for Leeds

Jack of all trades

James is a player that can play in a multitude of positions, and that could be bad news for Leeds.

If he is not used in the middle of the pitch, his most effective position, and Bielsa instead decides to have the 21-year-old in a different position, it could weaken the side and cause players who play in the role to be unimpressed with the potential choices made.

Wide players are not a priority for Leeds, and in getting one, that could leave an area in need of bolstering lacking heading into the latter stages of the campaign.

Defensive contribution

The way Leeds United play, defending as a unit is just as important as they frenetic, calculated attacking play Bielsa demands from his side.

One of James’ weaknesses is his defensive contribution, according to whoscored.com

If a game is late on and Leeds are hanging in there – relying on the current Swansea man could be an unwise thing to do.

Bielsa will need to improve that ten-fold in a short space of time to have him be at his most effective if he is indeed to move to Leeds.
