Many Nottingham Forest fans face a nervous wait over Aitor Karanka's future at the club after he was linked with the managerial vacancy at Sporting Lisbon.

The interest in Karanka will come as a surprise to many, as Sporting Lisbon are a prestigious club who are competing at both a high level in Portugal and in Europe.

Sporting sacked their previous manager Jose Peseiro after they fell to a shock defeat in the League Cup to second division side Estoril.

But Forest will be hoping that Karanka opts to stay with the Championship club, as they fight for promotion to the Premier League.

With it just be rumours at this stage, Karanka will take charge of his Reds side when they host table-topping Sheffield United at the weekend, in what will prove to be Forest's biggest test of the season so far.

But why should Forest be doing every they can to stop Karanka moving to the Portuguese giants?

Find out here....

It's no secret that Nottingham Forest have been struggling in recent years and have not fulfilled their potential.

But with new signings during the summer transfer window, Karanka is finally seeing the potential in this squad.

With Forest just outside the play-off positions, Karanka is certainly the man to lead this side into the top six and the Reds should do all they can to keep him at the club, after such a successful start to the season.

Karanka has only been at the club since January 2018, so he certainly shouldn't be in a rush to move on.

Since he has taken over, the club have signed a number of high-profile players, the hope that they can help aid their promotion bid to the Premier League this season.

If Forest do win promotion with Karanka in charge, then the possibilities are endless, especially given the well-publicised financial backing that he would have as manager of the club.
