Reports emerged this weekend via the national press that Premier League giants Chelsea could be weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest starlet Matty Cash, with a January bid being touted around.

The youngster has only made his breakthrough into the Reds' first-team this season, making his comeback from injury during Friday night's 5-2 victory over Barnsley.

Prior to his injury Cash had displayed an array of talent from midfield, with his energetic performances drawing praise the club's manager and supporters.

The 19-year-old clearly looks talented enough to one day grace the Premier League but whether that will be as early as this season remains very much to be seen.

Having seen Oliver Burke depart in the summer transfer window, Forest will be keen to ensure that another bright, young talent doesn't leave during the forthcoming transfer window.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at two reasons why Nottingham Forest would be silly to offload Cash during the next transfer window.

Fan Revolt

Those of a Nottingham Forest persuasion were desperately angry and disappointed in August when the club opted to sell Oliver Burke for £13 million to Red Bull Leipzig.

With the sale of the Scotland international still raw among the Forest contingent, the last thing the club could do with now is losing another top youngster from their ranks.

Attendances are already down on last season at the City Ground and although their remains an ardent core of supporters, the club can ill-afford to lose any more on the gate at home fixtures.

Selling Cash would be the final straw as far as some fans are concerned and the club needs to move forward together and not in disjointed fashion.

Chelsea Notoriously Waste Youngsters

Whilst Chelsea is undoubtedly a top quality club in the English Premier League, the Blues don't have a great record when it comes to developing younger players.

Cash should look towards former Forest striker Patrick Bamford before jumping ship to join Antonio Conte's men, with Bamford yet to feature for the Chelsea first-team despite being on the books at Stamford Bridge since 2012.

Although a club like the Blues would naturally interest Cash, it is unlikely he would play much under Conte at present and the player would be much better served if he stayed at Forest and continued to play regular first-team football.
