Nottingham Forest had a good transfer window in the end, despite the loss of captain Henri Lansbury and numerous issues with ownership.

The two late deadline day signings of Zach Clough and Ross McCormack put Reds fans back in the optimistic category for the time being, and the follow up win over Rotherham this week did no harm either.

However, there are always a few targets who slip through the net, and one such player could potentially have been former Grimsby man Omar Bogle.

Bogle instead moved to fellow Championship club Wigan Athletic on deadline day, and the Latics will be delighted to capture the in form strike ace.

With the thought of missing out on Bogle in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor has taken a look at TWO reasons why the Reds missed a trick in signing Omar Bogle...

Support for Assombalonga

Despite the signing of Clough, there is relatively little striking support for top man Assombalonga at the City Ground.

The addition of Bogle could have been ideal, especially given the Forest strikers injury record.

Bogle should hit the ground running for Wigan, and it will be interesting to see if Forest will be left to rue not snapping him up before the end of the window.

A low risk gamble

Bogle has not cost much in terms of money when you look at other deals in the Championship, and signing Bogle would have been relatively low risk for Forest.

If he didn't quite work out, Forest would have had no problem moving him on in the summer of beyond, with plenty of League One clubs sniffing around the striker prior to his Wigan move.

If Forest had managed to add Bogle, the likelihood is that he would have been well worth the small fee.
