Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Wigan's Gavin Massey in the summer, when the winger will be out of contract.

The 26-year-old played a crucial role for the Latics as they won promotion to the Championship last season but the current campaign has been frustrating for him.

Injuries have restricted the quick wide man to just 14 league appearances, although he is fit and firing now having scored two goals in his last four games.

He has proven himself to be an important player for Paul Cook since joining, so Wigan are keen to tie him down with a new deal but the Daily Mail have revealed interest from Forest and QPR.

Even though he's a decent player and on a free transfer there would be little to lose, we outline TWO reasons why the Reds should not go through with a move for Massey...

He hasn't proven himself at this level

Even though he's in a decent run of form right now, Massey hasn't actually proven himself at this level yet.

He has spent most of his career so far in League One and was even in the fourth-tier with the O's recently.

That's not to write off the wide man yet but he would represent a risk in that sense and that may not be what Forest want.

He's no better than what they've got

Following on from that, he's not an upgrade on what the Reds actually have right now.

Joe Lolley, Forest's best player, is starting from the right now and they have Matty Cash as another option whilst young Arvin Appiah is tipped to have a bright future.

This move would feel like a squad-filler when they should be looking for players to make the XI better.
