With promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking all but secured for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side, the Spanish manager will begin to look ahead to next year, and The Magpies latest Premier League scrap.

A number of factors will determine whether or not Newcastle survive at the higher level, but Benitez’s activity in the transfer market will be an early indicator as to the success of Newcastle United next season.

The manager will be handed a sizeable transfer kitty, and will look to drastically improve his squad ahead of August’s big kick off. In the world of the inflated transfer market in which we live, quality acquisitions from Premier League rivals will be sure to hit the pockets of the Geordies.

The Championship - the division which Newcastle are set to leave behind - is awash with talent, and although many club’s in the division have the financial capacity to not let their stars leave on the cheap, they will certainly be a shade more budget friendly than their Premier League counterparts.

One such star is Brentford’s Spanish import, Jota, who has lit up the division since his return to English football from a loan spell with Eibar in Spain’s top flight.

Here are TWO reasons why Newcastle should swoop for the £1.02m-rated attacking star....

The whole package

The Celta Vigo youth product signed for the Bees in 2014 from boyhood club, Celta Vigo, and quickly established himself in the Brentford side.

Personal issues persuaded the Bees to let the player return home to Eibar on an 18 month loan deal in January 2016, but since the west London side recalled Jota in January, he has been a revelation.

A phenomenal 12 goals and 5 assists in only 17 Championship starts since January has fired the Bees up the league table, and the partnership Jota has formed with fellow Spaniard, Sergi Canos, and Danish international, Lasse Vibe, has proved devastating.

Jota offers both goals and creativity, and is a proven match winner.

Two goals in Saturday’s 3-1 derby win over fierce rivals, Queens Park Rangers, has only added to Jota’s stock, and Newcastle would be foolish not to consider an offer for such a talented player.

The fans love him

Brentford is a very close knit, family club due to its relatively small size in comparison to other clubs in the division.

The fans are the heartbeat of the club, and Jota has become a firm favourite with the Bees’ faithful.

A last minute winner last season against other local rivals, Fulham, propelled the player into the history books, and marked the beginning of a series of songs about the star. ‘Jota in the last minute’ can often be heard echoing around Griffin Park, and a trio of famous Brentford fans, led by BBC Radio London commentator Billy Reeves, recently released a charity track in ode to the player.

Jota is a legend at Griffin Park, and it would take a serious bid to prise him away from his adoring fans. The player recently admitted that he would like to stay with the Bees beyond the end of his current deal, which expires at the end of next season, but Newcastle’s outlay would certainly be worth it for the player they would acquire.

Newcastle fans love a hero, and the Spanish maestro would easily become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.
