Leeds United are set to sign Scottish winger Stuart McKinstry in the summer, with the Whites beating off a host of clubs to the 16-year-old's signature.

The Scottish Sun has confirmed that the Motherwell youngster is to sign a deal at Elland Road meaning he will arrive in West Yorkshire in the summer.

McKinstry - who has yet to make a first team appearance for Well - is highly thought of north of the border and had been the subject of interest from the likes of Southampton, who it is reported Leeds have beaten off to get the deal concluded for the youngster.

Leeds have made a good habit this year of introducing young players into the first team, and McKinstry fits the bill for the Whites in terms of a player who can come into Elland Road and really develop into a quality player over time.

But just how good of a signing could this actually be? We at FLW think it could be a massive coup for the club, and we looked at TWO reasons why that just might be...

Proves they are still a big draw

While they might be in the Championship - for the moment at least - this signing shows that Leeds are still a force in the market.

Beating off Premier League sides to the signing of such a talent is a big boost for the club in general, and just goes to show further the size of the club.

McKinstry will love it at Elland Road no doubt, and with a bit of luck he might even be a Premier League footballer come the summer.

Potential Jack Clarke replacement?

There's little denying that there is going to be huge interest in Clarke come the summer, and Leeds might well see McKinstry as a ready made replacement for their young winger.

McKinstry, if he can continue to develop, will hope to follow the same sort of path as Clarke, who has been hugely impressive.

While the club will no doubt want both players to build their future around, it's something to bare thinking about in terms of the move for McKinstry.
