With Jamal Blackman's time at Leeds United all but over after suffering a leg break last week, the club are set to be back in the market for a new shot-stopper in the January window.

And the man who is apparently top of their list is Birmingham City 'keeper and summer target David Stockdale.

Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds were very keen on the 33-year-old after he was booted from the first-team squad by Garry Monk, but the two clubs could not agree a deal.

Stockdale moved to St. Andrews at the start of last season after being released by Brighton, making 36 appearances and keeping six clean sheets.

He was sent out on an emergency loan to League One side Southend United earlier in the season where he made three appearances having been banished from the first-team by Monk.

Youth product Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been Marcelo Bielsa's first choice 'keeper at Elland Road this season but a few shaky performances in recent weeks have led to doubts over his ability to help win promotion.

But even if they do want a new shot-stopper, they should not go for Stockdale.

And here are two reasons why...

The way things have gone at Birmingham since the summer points to a serious attitude problem.

High spirits have been a massive help for Leeds this season with the fans and the team all pulling in the same direction which is a rare occurrence at the club in recent years.

Bringing in Stockdale could, therefore, jeopardise that and is best avoided.

Everything Bielsa has done at Leeds seems to have been done with the future in mind and his promotion of youth has been admirable.

Signing Stockdale would go completely against this. The 33-year-old will most likely only be good enough for the remainder of this season and then they are back to square one.

Bielsa should carry on with his current technique and either bring in a young and highly-rated goalkeeper or persist with Peacock-Farrell.
